It has recently been a time of soul-searching for me. Not long ago, a Tuesday was memorialized with a life ceremony and at the end of the day, a new birth. I met with family at the life ceremony and we shared our feelings regarding Bucky Wilson. Then, I was hoping for a message from one of both people I had messaged that morning and not had heard from either of them. I decided to travel to Lake City and get a “feel” for where the gathering is going to be July 2nd to honor all of our relatives living in the area. I started north out of Lake City and received a call from our good friends, Stan and Waya'sni Gee in Harrison. I was over forty miles northwest of them, but felt it important and turned around. I am glad I did. Waya-sni has been battling cancer for some time. She needs oxygen due to the lung damage and her body has born the results of the harsh antibiotic regimen and the chemo. At one point she was hospitalized in intensive care and not expected to survive, but she is still here with us. My heart and prayers go out to her and her husband. Stan is now doing the housework, laundry, shopping, etc., and has decided to retire. I was blessed to be in the presence of such determination and conviction. I received a call from the second person I contacted that morning and met her and some of her friends at a restaurant in downtown Lake City. We prayed and visited regarding the upcoming event July 2nd and the possibility of holding a pow-wow in Lake City next year. They pointed out the site for the gathering on July 2nd and it is exceptional. It is right downtown on the lake-front in a small park. A young waitress was serving us who had identified herself as a follower of Jesus Christ. Maria (my friend I met in Brimley Indian Church) asked if this young woman had ever received the Holy Ghost. The young woman said she hadn't heard of this before. We asked her if we could pray for her and she received the Holy Ghost hearing her speak in a language she didn't go to school to learn. I was informed that Maria had visited the local newspaper regarding the gathering and the Chamber of Commerce and both are interested in seeing it happen. We all prayed again before we separated. You may have seen the pictures on facebook. I left town about 9:30pm and arrived home a little after 11pm. It was a full day and a blessed day. I would like to live it over and over again a thousand times. Miigwech to all who made it such a blessing for me!
