Maybe when it seems that we are friendless and alone seeing no purpose in living another day or homeless and hungry wondering where our next meal is coming or if we will ever be warm again.
We have all experienced some of these and may again. It is the time when our prayers do not cease. We are looking for a champion; a David. When all seems hopeless and you can't stop the tears. People around you see your pain, but have no answer for you, other than to offer prayer. You know, those times when it seems every second on the clock drags by and days and nights flee with no inspiration and your prayers bounce back from the ceiling. King David knew those times. Some of them he created himself and others were created for him. If we respond in faith, the giants fall. There is a new day and a freshness falls over the land. The sun shines brighter and life takes on a new meaning and a greater consecration. This was and is my prayer in those times. I can't tell you how many times in desperate moments it has come to me, like a song of comfort and assurance. Our answer comes from the top down, not the bottom up. Psalms 121[1] I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence comes my help. [2] My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. [3] He will not suffer my foot to be moved: He that keeps me will not slumber. [4] Behold, he that keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. [5] The LORD is my Keeper: the LORD is my Shade upon my right hand. [6] The sun shall not smite me by day, nor the moon by night. [7] The LORD shall preserve me from all evil: He shall preserve my soul. [8] The LORD shall preserve my going out and my coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore. I have received my answer and the strength I need. My hope is built on nothing less. I have found it is far better to go to the Mountain! He is all my hope and stay! He can be yours too, if you will lift up your eyes to the hills where our help is. Our help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth. Jesus Christ is the answer!
